When a benefit is difficult to implement and even harder to use, employers and employees can’t take advantage of new benefit solutions. We worked with an employer to implement an accessible and affordable supplemental health insurance plan— signed, sealed and delivered in just three days.
The Challenge
A food supplier offered traditional health insurance as well as an accident plan for its diverse set of employees, including warehouse and field workers, many of whom are Spanish speakers. However, a large portion of the employee population didn’t participate in the medical plan because it was expensive, and those who opted into the accident plan were frustrated by its cumbersome claims process and frequent denials.
The Solution: 100% Voluntary Ansel
The broker was attracted to Ansel because it was a simplified solution with wide-ranging coverage that could help fill in the gaps for employees who couldn’t afford the out-of-pocket costs associated with common conditions, such as dehydration, kidney stones, and pneumonia.
He recommended that the employer implement Ansel off-cycle so that employees could focus on and understand this new benefit. He proposed a 100% voluntary Ansel plan that started at an affordable price.
Ansel’s fast implementation and enrollment allowed the employer to review the proposal, sign their contract, and hold the enrollment over the course of just three days. When Ansel was presented to the group, enrollment assistance was offered in Spanish and English to accommodate all employees.
In the end, 40% of employees enrolled on a pure voluntary basis because they knew Ansel could help ease the burden of out-of-pocket costs that come with unexpected medical issues. In fact, even those with the traditional medical plan participated because they saw how Ansel complemented their health needs.
Keys to the Win
“We presented Ansel to the team and within an hour, there was a line out the door. This is because Ansel is a simple solution that can provide immediate value at an affordable price point. These basic attributes resulted in almost half of the group participating, regardless of what other coverage they had.” —Rance Fears, Regional Sales Director, Ansel
Fast implementation means employees access benefits sooner
With Ansel, groups enjoy 100% paperless implementation, which means they can go from quote to contract in a single day.
Wide-ranging coverage that tackles relevant conditions
Ansel’s long list of covered conditions was especially relevant to this group. Issues like dehydration, pneumonia, kidney stones, and benign tumors are not typically covered by traditional supplemental plans. This coverage gives workers added peace of mind with cash benefits to help offset the financial impact of these kinds of common, unexpected health issues.
Spanish language support
Ansel recognized the demographics of this group and provided enrollment materials and concierge support in English and Spanish—removing any potential language barriers.
